Sails

I like a little guitar any day, especially if played by Chet Atkins. The complement picture is a sailboat knick-knack circa 1940-something. There are two and they sail through the treetops around here day after day. They are pretty representative of my corner. Say, what knick-knack would represent the essence of your corner?

Answering two questions today and then sailing off because chores are demanding attention.

1. The name of the story is Sankewi. You can always find it on my sidebar directly beneath "My Friends and Favorite Blogs."

2. John chose place over chair. He is just starting to shift as of this morning when I found him on his chair instead of in his place. Ha!

* The first video was removed at You Tube. Drat. I loved the interaction between Steve Wariner and Chet Atkins. Chet told Steve that he learned the song from him. The first was instrumental; this is Steve singing, beautifully I might add, and the two of them on a guitar duet.  We're back to instrumental as of January 23, 2019. You Tube links are a challenge.

  1. My rabbit knick-knacks define my office space! I am especially enamored with my rabbit bookends.

I will scamper off to read your latest installment. And I would much rather chose my chair over place, any day! I am fussy about where I park my caboose.

  2. I'm trying not to be a knick-knack gal because I hate to dust.
You are a very talented lady! I just started reading Sankewi this morning.
    Hugs,
    Cathie

  4. I like the sailboat - it speaks of faraway places and adventures off the east coast. Over here my favourites are hearts - and I don't mind dusting them at all.

  5. I have a lot of kitty knick-knacks. Gee... I wonder why??
    Love the guitar music.

  6. Sailboats, and especially Tall Ships, call to my heart. Surprisingly, I don't have any knick knacks of ships....but they remind me of Elizabeth Goudge's The Scent of Water, which begins and ends with a ship, sailing out on shining waters...my favorite knick knacks, however, are those of colored glass, that I keep in my kitchen window, one of those windows that juts out from the house with a shelf or two. Where I can see them glowing with beautiful light. Perhaps one day I will be blessed to own a crystal ship for my window!

  8. I would have lost if I'd bet on which John would choose. I thought it would be chair. Sounds as if he's trying both out before making a decision.

Is the sailboat(s) a family heirloom?

    1. They belonged to my grandmother as so much in my home did.

  9. I wish I could answer the knick knack question as I have way too many.
    I am enjoying reading Sankewi.
    Enjoy your day.
    Blessings,

  10. Place over chair.....how interesting. It's like he is a little mouse in a maze and we were watching him to see how he would solve a problem.
Knick knack? right now I would say it's the white enamelware pot trimmed in red with a big red bow I tied around it that houses current magazines and reading material. Really enjoy that thing!
Thanks for sending me over to Auntie's. I've been tweaking my background for hours. Hours, I say!

    1. I am smiling at Carol's "Hours, I say!" (Smiling because I like to know that I am not the only person who can spend hours on a computer thing.) =D

  11. Oh goodness, I have so many knick knacks scattered...I mean grouped, all over the place (one is never enough).

I have cd of flamenco guitar that I love and often play when I'm cleaning. I've always been enamored of flamenco and flamenco dancers.

  12. I love your sailboat and love that it was a family piece and that it is indicative of your corner of the world. I am not sure if I have any regional elements in my own decorating...hmmmm...

As predicted, I made the wrong guess about John's seating choice. I wonder if it is because of the lighting in that particular spot. I know that I have chosen seats based on lighting, natural or otherwise. Or maybe the view? Or maybe the convenience of a side table at the chosen spot? I'm sure I'm being way too analytic about this. If John's happy, I'm happy. :)

  13. I like your sailboat.
    I don't really have a favorite one.

  14. Am listening to the music as I read and comment - nice! I love your sailboat and the fact that it was your grandmothers. Because you live by the sea makes this knick knack so relevant! My kitchen has rooster knick knacks even though we don't have any on our farm. I just love proud colourful roosters and I think the rooster, for me, symbolizes Christianity and reminds me to be truthful.
Gotta check out Sankewi now ....

  15. If I had to pick one word for knick knacks for me it would be SHELLS. Tea related items a close second, but always shells.

  16. I like bunnies . . . I have many! Funny about John! I'm off o ck out your story.

  17. Oh, I have a lot of knick knacks around the house and I enjoy my little creamers and pitchers the most. So John chose place over chair. Interesting. But he did choose the chair after all. Men! :)

  18. I could never pick a favorite; I love everything I have!!!!

Love your sailboat and a history.....
I would pick a location over a chair, but that's just me.....

  19. I have a few rooster knick knacks that might represent my growing up on a farm, but nothing especially pertaining to my particular area. I like your sailboat.

  20. I don't have one knick knack that represents me, I have eclectic taste and my knick knacks reflect various moods, I think! I knew John would go for the space at first. We are creatures of habit. xo

  21. I am sooo happy that you told us the answer to place or chair. I really wanted to know....no sarcasm. I'm really that nosy.

I got that scent you were curious about. I intend to make you a tester for this one. Watch your mail.

  22. I'm not a big Knick Knack person. A few years ago, I was a teddy bear collector and had their sweet company in my office. Now I'd have to say the country blue speckled kitty cat piggy bank is my fave knick knack which I keep planted in the basket that serves as our coffee station.

  23. Well, I was wrong about John, but maybe time will find him consistently chosing chair over location.
My Dad had a Chet Atkins albumn that I had spent hours listening to. Him and Floyd Cramer, in fact. They were both so talented.
A ship from the 1940's, now that's old!
My favorite knick-knack as of late is my porcelin bird collection.

  24. Chet Atkins...now that is a blast from the past I had almost forgotten about. He knew how to play guitar!

Hmmm. I can't think of any knick-knacks that are representative of my corner. But I'll be back when I do!

  25. The knick knacks rotate in and out around here so fast that I can't pin down one that defines my space. I don't like too much stuff out at once, so I keep it in a closet and bring out whatever suits me at the moment. There's always some natural elements around - today there are pine cones in a cloche and some driftwood on the mantel.

  26. I sure am looking forward to your next installment of Sankewi! You have an excellent way with words, Vee!

In my little corner, I have two - first, my precious MIL gave me a little figurine of a mother bouncing a baby on her knee. My kids are my life and she gave it to me when I became a mother. My other knick-knack is a little ceramic artist painting at an easel. I don't know where it came from - perhaps a garage sale? I truly don't remember but I've had it for years. Guess that's my muse. Looks very "frenchy" and artistic - only about 4-5 inches tall.

    Great question!
